Zaire 1974

I did all-time teams for Algeria, Ghana, Morocco, South Africa, Cameroon and Nigeria.  The rest of Africa is divided into Northern Africa(including Sudan) and Sub-Saharan Africa.  This is the team for the Sub-African All-time team, excluding Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and the Northern African countries.

Zaire's poor performance at the WC in 1974 did not leave a good impression for African football.  Since then, it has made progress on the world stage.  Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon and Nigeria have great WC Finals.

GK: Bruce Grobbelaar (Zimbabwe)
Making 628 appearances for Liverpool in 13 years.  He wa considered among the best England-based keepers of his generation. He won the 1984 European Cup, 6 English league titles and 3 FA Cups. Born in South Africa, he was capped by Rhodesia and later Zimbabwe.

Bruce Grobbelaar

GK: Kazadi Mwamba (Zaire/Congo)

He led his country to victory in the 1968 African Cup f Nations.  However, he was probably remembered for Zaire's poor performance at the WC in 1974.

GK: Alain Gouaméné (Ivory Coast)
He played for ASEC Mimosas, Raja Casablanca, FC Toulouse, SCO Angers and FC Lorient. He ws the star at the 1992 African Cup of Nations, where Ivory Coast won.

RB: Emmanuel Eboue (Ivory Coast)
He is best known for his stint with Arsenal between 2005 and 2011. He played in both WC Finals in 2006 and 2010.

CB: Julien Kialunda (Zaire/Congo)

He won the 1968 African Cup f Nations.  However, he was a part of  Zaire's ill-fated team at the WC in 1974. He had a successful stint with Anderlecht.

CB: Henry Konan (Ivory Coast)

He played club football for Stade d'Abidjan during the 1960s and helped the club win the 1966 African Cup of Champions Clubs.

CB: Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast)
He is Yaya Toure's brother.  He was a member of Arsenal's undefeated team in 2003-2004.  He later joined Manchester City.  He played in three WC Finals.

SW:  Bwanga Tshimen (Zaire/Congo)
He was nicknamed "Black Beckenbauer".  he is widely considered one of the best defender from Africa.  He won the 1973 African Footballer of the Year.  He was a part of  Zaire's ill-fated team at the WC in 1974. 

LW: Arthur Boka (Ivory Coast) 
Nicknamed "Africa's Roberto Carlos".  He was a part of the Côte d'Ivoire squads at two FIFA World Cups and five Africa Cups of Nations between 2006 and 2013. 

CM: Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast)
He is probably one of the best African player of his generation.  He went to three World Cup Finals.  he helped Manchester City to win its first Premiership.

DM: Chérif Souleymane (Guinea) 
He was African Player of the Year in 1972.  He was a part of Guinea's great team in the 1970's.  He played in the 1968 Olympics.

LW:  Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia)
He is regarded as the greatest Zambian footballer of all time. He was named African Footballer of the Year in 198.  he was Zambia's captain during the ill-fated WCQers in 1994 when most of the team died in a plane crash.  He was not on the flight. He won two back-to-back Eredivisie titles with PSV Eindhoven.

Bwalya

FW: Paul Moukila (Chad)
He was African Player of the Year in 1974.  In 2006, he was selected by CAF as one of the best 200 African football players of the last 50 years

FW: Paul Bonga Bonga (Congo)
He had a wonderful career with Standard Liege in the 1950's and 1960's.  He was the first African selected by World Soccer magazine as its World Best XI in 1962.

FW:  Jules Bocande (Senegal)
He was capped by Senegal for 73 times between 1979 and 1993.  He played his club footbll in France.  He was the league's top scoree in the 1985-1986 season.

ST:  Laurent Pokou (Ivory Coast)
He was twice the highest goalscorer of the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring six goals in the 1968 tournament in Ethiopia and eight in the 1970 edition in Sudan.  With 14 total goals, he is also the tournament's second highest overall goalscorer.


AM/FW: George Weah (Liberia) 
In terms of individual awards, no African player wins more awards than him.  He was was named FIFA World Player of the Year and won the Ballon d'Or in 1995.  He won African Footballer of the Year: 1989, 1994, 1995.  He was voted African Player of the Century in 1996.  He had great careers with AC Milan where he won two Serie A titles.

Weah

AM/ST: El-Hadji Diouf (Senegal)

He made his name after the WC Finals in 2002, where he joined Liverpool after the Finals.  He was BBC African Player of the Year in 2002. 

ST: Frederic Kanoute  (Mali)
He won two UEFSA Cups while playing for Sevilla in Spain.  He was African Player of the Year in 2007.  He was born in France, but represented Mali internationally.  He played in France, England, Spain and China professionally.  

ST: Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo)
He is widely considered to be Togo's greatest player. He first made his name in France with Metz and Monaco that led him a transfer to Arsenal in 2006. He later played with Manchester City, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs.

ST: Petit Sory (Guinea)

He played for Hafia FC at home, where he won three African Champion Cups.  He was considered to be one of Africa's greatest defender in the 1970's.

ST:  Salif Keita (Mali)
He was voted African Footballer of the Year in 1970.  He found stardom almost everywhere he played.  His best stints were with Saint-Étienne, Marseille, Valencia and Sporting Portugal.  He was selected by the Confederation of African Football as one of the best 200 African football players of the last 50 years.

ST: Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast) 

He was voted African Footballer of the Year twice; 2006 and 2009.  The best part of his career was spent with Chelsea.  He won the Champions' League for 20011-12. He also finished the top scorer in the Premiership twice.  For his country, he led Ivory Coast to the World Cup Finals in 2006, 2010 and 2014. He was their all-time leading scorer.
